Guest Stories

What Our Guests Say

Stories from anglers and families who have made Cat Island Lodge part of their tradition.

This is a unicorn of a fly-in fishing lodge. I’ve been fishing lodges from the Amazon to Alaska, and this place is special. We have done a family men’s fishing trip to Canada for 30+ years. We found Cat Island Lodge 10 years ago, and this is the only place we will go

We have tried other lodges and have left disappointed, but not here. This place is terrific. It is part of our family history now and the best bonding event we’ve ever found. The craziest thing is, it gets better every year. This is by far my favorite lodge for fishing and catching.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have a few questions? Here are answers to some of the things guests ask most while planning a fly-in fishing trip to Cat Island Lodge.

Do I need to arrange my own floatplane flight?

No. Once you arrive at our water base in Ear Falls, we take care of the rest. Our team coordinates your round-trip floatplane transportation, departure time, luggage loading, and arrival at the lodge so your fly-in adventure begins without complicated logistics.

Is Cat Island Lodge family friendly?

Absolutely. Children are not simply accommodated at Cat Island Lodge—they are warmly welcomed. Families return year after year to share first catches, outdoor adventures, and traditions that can span generations.

To make family trips more accessible, children ages 12 and under receive 50% off package prices, while young anglers ages 13–17 receive 25% off. Explore our Family Savings Opportunities.

Do I need an Ontario fishing license?

Anglers age 18 and older need a valid Ontario Outdoors Card and fishing license before heading out on the water. Children under 18 may fish under a licensed adult, although any fish they keep count toward that adult’s limits.

We recommend arranging your license before your trip. Follow our step-by-step Ontario Fishing License Guide.

Do I need to bring my own fishing gear?

You are welcome to bring the rods, reels, and tackle you already enjoy using. Rental equipment is also available with advance notice, and our guides can help recommend tackle and techniques based on the species, season, and conditions on Trout Lake.

What should I pack for my trip?

Plan for changing weather by packing comfortable layers, dependable rain gear, sturdy footwear, personal toiletries, and any fishing equipment you would like to use. Soft-sided duffel bags are preferred because they are easier to load and store on the floatplane.

Guests receive additional trip-preparation information before arrival, and our complete FAQ page includes more packing and travel guidance.

Can you accommodate dietary needs or food allergies?

Yes. Our kitchen can accommodate many dietary restrictions and food allergies with advance notice. Please share the needs of everyone in your group before arrival so our team has time to plan and prepare accordingly.

Is a fly-in fishing trip suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. You do not need years of fishing experience to enjoy Cat Island Lodge. Our knowledgeable guides can adapt the day to your comfort and experience level, helping first-time anglers build confidence while giving seasoned anglers opportunities to pursue the fish they came to catch.

Can non-anglers enjoy a stay at Cat Island Lodge?

Yes. Fishing may be at the heart of the experience, but guests also come to enjoy the scenery, wildlife, boating, photography, quiet time at the lodge, and the chance to disconnect in Ontario’s wilderness. You do not need to be a serious angler to appreciate the destination.

Do you offer winter ice fishing trips?

No. Cat Island Lodge is a seasonal fly-in lodge designed for Ontario’s open-water fishing season. We focus on welcoming guests during the summer season, when Trout Lake can be explored by boat and the full lodge experience is available.
