A New Starting Point for Your Adventure
As of January 2026, Cat Island Lodge is excited to announce that all guest arrivals and departures now take place from our private water base in Ear Falls of Ontario’s Superior County.
This new base is located approximately one hour south of our former departure point. The change allows for more flexibility and a more direct transition into the wilderness.
Traveling to Ontario’s Superior County
Every stay at Cat Island Lodge includes a floatplane flight over the lakes and wilderness- an unforgettable part of the experience for both new and returning guests.
Upon arrival at the water base, guests are checked in, gear is weighed and loaded, and floatplanes begin departing from the dock starting at 7:00 AM on arrival days as part of our standard package.
Returning Guests- What’s Changed?
If you’ve stayed with us in past seasons, you may remember departing from Red Lake. With our new Ear Falls water base, that same fly-in experience now begins just an hour south- more relaxed, more private, and better suited to our guests’ travel flow. The destination- and the experience that awaits- remains unchanged.
Planning Your Trip
Guests traveling from the United States can cross into Canada via common entry points such as International Falls (MN) before continuing north on Highway 11, 502, then Highway 105 through scenic lake country to reach Ear Falls. Guests flying commercially into Winnipeg can rent a vehicle for the final stretch (approximately 4 hours 40 Minutes) and drive from Trans-Canadian Highway 1 to the 105.
From Ear Falls, the floatplane flight to Cat Island Lodge is a short and scenic hop north across waterways and islands, touching down on Trout Lake at Cat Island Lodge’s docks.
*Guests receive full directions and arrival details with their booking confirmation.
